Tips for renting in Rouen
Rouen is a hilly city, so keep the terrain in mind when choosing your rental. The climb to Côte Sainte-Catherine rewards you with a stunning panoramic view of the cathedral and the Seine, but it is steep. An electric-assist bike makes the hills much more manageable if you plan to explore beyond the riverbanks.
The left-bank Seine quays offer the flattest and most pleasant cycling in the city, with dedicated lanes stretching several kilometres. From there you can easily connect to the Seine à Vélo route heading toward the dramatic river loops and ruined abbeys of the Norman countryside.
The Avenue Verte passes through Rouen on its way from Paris to Dieppe and onward to London by ferry. It makes for a fantastic day ride toward the Pays de Bray countryside. Start early to make the most of cooler morning temperatures in summer.
Check your brakes and tyre pressure before heading into the cobbled streets around the cathedral and the Place du Vieux-Marché. A sturdy lock is essential for any stop in the city centre, and lights are a must if you plan to ride in the evening.
