Tips for renting in Cannes
The crossing to the Îles de Lérins is the most popular outing from Cannes. Île Sainte-Marguerite is just a few minutes by boat and offers beautiful sheltered coves for swimming and anchoring. Île Saint-Honorat, smaller and home to a working monastery, is equally worth visiting. A modest motorboat is all you need for this day trip.
For longer cruises, the coastline between Cannes and Saint-Tropez provides a spectacular itinerary with possible stops in the Esterel calanques, Saint-Raphaël, and Fréjus. ALGA YACHT and Prime Azur offer vessels suited to these routes, from RIBs to live-aboard yachts.
A French coastal boat licence is required to operate a motorboat above six horsepower. If you do not hold one, choose a skippered charter. This option is also popular for on-the-water events during the Film Festival, when yacht parties are a Cannes institution.
Book well in advance during high season, from May to September. May is particularly tight because of the Festival. Check insurance terms, the required deposit, and fuel costs, which are often charged separately.
